It is with great sentiment that we announce that Calypso Cafe will close its doors on Sunday, June 5, 2011. We have been so fortunate to have been part of a vibrant and growing Hyde Park. It is with deep appreciation that Carol Andresen and the Calypso Café staff thank our guests for a remarkable fourteen year journey.
But, for everything there is a season. Watch as the heart of Hyde Park grows and improves with new parking and fabulous retail. We all have much to anticipate.

Exotic island eats and a breezy vacation vibe strike a Caribbean chord at Calypso Café in Chicago’s South Side Neighborhood of Hyde Park. With its cross-cultural mix of Caribbean cuisines, Calypso Cafe provides an affordable escape to the islands.
Our menu offers excellent jerk chicken and seafood cakes, among other dishes. Desserts include pineapple "jump-up" cake (an upside down cake) and incredible key lime pie. We also have some old favorites from the original Dixie Kitchen, and have remodeled our back room to keep the Southern spirit alive after the restaurant closed in 2009.
Colorful dishes like Cuban black-bean soup, Sautéed Rainbow Trout, and Rasta Pasta are so good you’ll want to take some home with you. To help wash down all of the delicious entrees try one of our signature cocktails including Pina Coladas, traditional Mojitos, Margaritas or The Island Viagra!
The atmosphere at Calypso Café has a lot to offer; listen to the sound of the Caribbean as you take in the bright, pastel-colored Caribbean decor in our Hyde Park restaurant, complete with palm trees, wicker-basket lamps and decorative toucans.

Calypso Cafe is located at 5211 S. Harper in the Harper Court complex. We are located near the intersection of 53rd and Lake Park and are conveniently located next to an easily accessible large parking lot, as well as ample street parking.
